Another Barcelona matchday, another horribly chaotic performance from the club, who lost 4-2 to Girona, who have now leapfrogged them to second place in La Liga.
Andreas Christensen and Artem Dovbyk traded goals within four minutes before Robert Lewandowski scored from the spot to take the lead just before the break.
The match looked in Barcelona’s control for the most part from here, but a mistake from Sergi Roberto opened the floodgates for Girona, with Portu scoring two and assisting one inside ten minutes as they took a 4-2 lead.
Two losses against Girona on an aggregate of 8-4 for Barcelona this season. Embarrassing beyond rationale.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen: 7
Decent with his distribution, and while none of the three goals came due to his fault, he really could have-should have done better.
Did made some incredible saves, though, and without him today it could have been a lot worse.
Jules Kounde: 4
A very poor performance from Kounde and the entire back-four. Gave away the ball cheaply multiple times, was not well-positioned enough at any time, and also left too much space behind him while inverting.
Made an incredible goal-line clearance in the last few minutes, but counts for very little.
Ronald Araujo: 5.5
Played some tidy passes out of the backline to start attacks, but questionable defending from him for the first goal, especially.
Pau Cubarsi: 5
Was having a solid game, especially with his excellent distribution, but came away with an error, as well, giving away the ball in a dangerous position at the start of Girona’s third goal.
Joao Cancelo: 4
Did well in 1v1 battles with Tsygankov, but left too much space, one of which led to a goal.
Ilkay Gundogan: 7.5
An ‘only’ decent performance from Gundogan tonight, who was uncharacteristically passive in possession. Came close to scoring as he hit the woodwork.
Andreas Christensen: 7.5
Did his work, and more, rather well. Scored the first goal with a brilliant volley, and was constantly mobile and present in midfield. Misplaced just two of his passes – Mr. Consistent.
Sergi Roberto: 4.5
Roberto was having a solid evening, putting in a solid shift in midfield, while doing most things right. However, things changed as he gave away the ball directly to Dovbyk, which led to the first goal as the floodgates opened.
Lamine Yamal: 8.5
By far and large the best player for Barcelona tonight, not that the bar was too high. Assisted Christensen’s goal with a superb pass and then won the penalty that Lewandowski converted.
Robert Lewandowski: 7
On the score sheet once again, but an extremely disappointing performance from Lewandowski. His first touches were trampoline-esque, and his movement utterly disappointing.
Fermin Lopez: 7
Put in the effort on and off the ball, and deserves credit for that. Came close to scoring from a Yamal chance, but put the ball over from close.
Pedri: 4
An absent cameo from Pedri, who had more than 20 minutes to make an impact, but could not do much.
Raphinha: 6
Acted as an outlet, and created a solid chance for Araujo which was put wide.
