According to recent reports from Spain, it has been suggested that Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is open to the possibility of joining Barcelona during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Jorginho’s contract with the Gunners is set to expire at the end of the season, but talks are reportedly in progress regarding a potential extension following his impressive performances in the current campaign.

Should an agreement on new terms not be reached, Barcelona could emerge as a transfer destination for the midfielder. According to SPORT, La Blaugrana are gearing up for a summer with reduced spending, making free or cut-price deals, such as one for Jorginho, more appealing and likely to be ‘circumstantial’.

Barcelona had previously considered Jorginho as a potential replacement for the injured Gavi during the January window, but a deal did not materialise. The report indicates that the Italy international would be enthusiastic about joining Barcelona, especially given his near move to the club in 2018 before he eventually signed with Chelsea.

While the potential signing of Jorginho goes against the sporting director Deco’s policy of not bringing in players over the age of 30, it is considered a special case due to the urgent need for a new midfielder, adding much-needed quality to the squad.

Barcelona, facing another restricted transfer window, has reportedly put on hold plans to pursue Everton’s Amadou Onana. The club’s priorities include securing a left-footed winger and signing Joao Cancelo on a permanent basis following his loan from Manchester City.

Notably, Barcelona does not anticipate major big-money transfers unless key players, such as Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo, are sold. Despite ongoing squad planning, the club is also on the lookout for a new head coach as Xavi is set to depart at the end of the season.
