Barcelona captain lashed out at Real Madrid forward from the bench during Super Cup final: “Shut up and play”

Barcelona’s recent defeat to Real Madrid in the final of the Spanish Super Cup was all about Vinicius Jr. The Brazilian international was the protagonist for Los Blancos, scoring a stellar first-half hat-trick and breaking Barça’s hopes at the very beginning.

Yet, it is almost difficult to keep Vinicius out of controversy. Even on a night when he was at his best on a sporting level, he still found a way to get his name known for the wrong reasons.

The unacceptable reaction

The incident in question is of the time after Ronald Araujo’s second yellow card and sending off on the night.

After the Uruguayan was shown a second yellow card for fouling Vinicius, the Brazilian was seen smiling on the pitch, something that did not sit well with the Barcelona bench.

As such, those on the sidelines, one of whom was Ferran Torres, said something to the 23-year-old superstar.

Immediately after the development, the Real Madrid winger showed four fingers, signalling the scoreline that they were chasing at the time.

Needless to say, it did not go down well with the Barcelona substitutes who did not hold back in reacting voraciously.

As revealed by Mundo Deportivo, the captain Sergi Roberto vocally lashed out at the player, saying, “Shut up, shut up and play. Shut up and you play!”

Further, Torres got up from his seat to argue with Vinicius over the unprovoked action while young Fermin Lopez gave him a push in protest. Xavi himself did not hold back as he went on to complain about the same to the referee saying, “What is this?”

Themselves to blame

While Vinicius’ reaction was unwarranted and unjustified, Barcelona have no one to blame but themselves for even reaching a situation where the player could signal such a sign. F

our goals down, the Catalans were indeed against the wall against Real Madrid for all the wrong reasons.

Questions have been asked and fingers pointed in the aftermath of the game at Al-Awwal Park. Barcelona were shambolic in defence and blunt in attack, and the game must arrive as some sort of awakening to the broken dressing room.

The manager retains faith in his project and has the backing of the president despite the result. However, one wonders how much longer Xavi will have such support if such results continue to pour in.
