Barcelona captain wants to stay amid €100 million Bayern links, but club’s finance team open to sale

There has been a lot written about Ronald Araujo and his future at FC Barcelona amid serious interest from German champions Bayern Munich.

The Bavarian giants have identified the Barça captain as one of the missing pieces of their puzzle and are prepared to go hard for him.

While a move this winter appears off the cards, the Bundesliga champions are not averse to returning for him in the summer, and would be willing to offer €100 million to sign him from Barcelona.

Araujo wants to stay

Amidst the rumours, journalist Sique Rodriguez has provided an update on Araujo and his future, claiming that the defender has no desire to leave Barcelona for Bayern Munich.

The 24-year-old has grown leaps and bounds since breaking into the first-team setup at Barcelona and has been named as one of the club captains this season.

Araujo also signed a new contract with the Blaugrana until the summer of 2026 and has already gone on record stating that he is happy at the club.

Only yesterday, during a press conference, the Uruguayan international reiterated his commitment to the Catalan giants, saying:

“In all markets there is talk of transfers. But I’m focused on the club, I’m happy. And I always give my best when it’s my turn to defend this shirt.

“These are always rumours that come up in every market. There’s always talk, but I’m focused on Barça and I always show it. I will always give 100 per cent.”

The report from Sique Rodriguez further adds that Barcelona director Deco is very much aware of the fact that Bayern Munich would be ready to offer €100 million for Araujo.

However, Deco and the sports management team do not want to offload the defensive mainstay and wish to retain him at the club.

But, the same line of thought is not shared by the club’s finance staff, who would be open to selling Araujo if it meant a big injection of funds.

Despite that, though, it is extremely unlikely that Barça would listen to any offers for Araujo, who is seen as an ‘untouchable’ along with Pedri and Gavi.
