Barcelona considering Yaser Asprilla swoop

La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly interested in South American attacker Yaser Asprilla, valued at €40-50 million by Watford.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Yaser Asprilla is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions are in the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Watford will demand around €40-50 million to part ways with the South American attacker.

Who is Yaser Asprilla?

Yaser Asprilla is a native of Bajo Baudo and spent his formative years in Colombia. An attacking midfielder by trade, he graduated from the Envigado youth division before arriving in England. Watford initially signed him on loan in January 2022 before completing a permanent move six months later.

Since then, the 20-year-old has come leaps and bounds, showcasing his versatility as a no. 10 and a wide attacker. Meanwhile, the South American attacker is enjoying a solid 2023/24 campaign. Asprilla has six goals and five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions for Watford thus far this term.

The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of a few high-profile clubs across Europe. The Colombian youth international has emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with the reigning La Liga champions considering signing him this summer. Meanwhile, Watford will demand around €40-50 million to part ways with him.

Barcelona Interested

Barcelona’s interest in Yaser Asprilla is understandable. The Catalan giants are in the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window. While the Colombian forward is primarily a no. 10, he is equally adept at playing on the right flank.

So, with Raphinha facing an uncertain future at the club, Asprilla has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona. Meanwhile, other attackers, including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, also feature on Barcelona’s wishlist. But the Watford attacker is also an option worth considering, although his price tag might pose a problem.

Barcelona might not have the financial strength to pay €40-50 million to secure Asprilla’s services in the summer transfer window. So, they must either shelve a move for the 20-year-old South American attacker for at least another year and continue monitoring his progress or look elsewhere for a more cost-effective solution.
