Barcelona contact teenage prodigy’s entourage to discuss contract situation – report

After Lamine Yamal’s explosion, Barcelona have unearthed another gem from La Masia in the form of Pau Cubarsi.

The teenage defender made his debut for the Blaugrana in January, aged just 16, and has since gone on to feature in ten senior matches, with six of them as starters.

Now 17 years old, Cubarsi is currently on a youth-team contract that he signed with Barça last summer, amid interest from some big clubs across Europe.

Barcelona discuss contract situation with Cubarsi’s camp

Given that he was still not a first-team player at the time, Barcelona inserted a measly release clause worth around €10-15 million in his contract, which runs until 2026.

But with the defender’s new-found stature as a first-team player, Barça have made contact with the youngster’s camp to discuss his contract situation, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Big clubs like Chelsea have taken an interest in him, but Barcelona are not worried about Cubarsi’s continuity and future.

However, at the same time, as a gesture to the player and those closest to him, the Catalans want to convey the firm intention that they are very aware of the need to adapt his contract to his new status as a first-team player.

Cubarsi’s current contract, valid until he is underage, will have to be adapted accordingly, bearing in mind that the revelation defender of La Liga will not turn 18 until January 2025.

The aim of the club’s sporting management is that Cubarsi and those close to him have the full conviction that they have total confidence in him, and that this will be reflected in his future.
