Barcelona could be in for €5 million boost with former player’s sale to Girona – report

For a club in a terribly delicate financial situation, such as Barcelona, every single penny counts right now.

While Joan Laporta may continue to claim otherwise, the truth seems that the club is taking two steps forward and one step back with every single financial decision they make right now.

Regardless, what Barcelona are definitely pursuing right now is sales. They want to offload players ahead of, and during the summer transfer window so that can sign players to cover for, in other positions.

The defence, especially could see a clearance sale, with Sergino Dest, Clement Lenglet, Eric Garcia, and potentially Julian Araujo expected to leave the club.

However, apart from this, Barcelona are also keeping tabs on another player that could help them pocket €5 million.

The Mika Marmol move

According to SPORT, Barça are particularly interested in the future of one of their former centre-backs, Mika Marmol.

The Spaniard currently plies his trade with Las Palmas, and is quietly having a rather impressive season under Garcia Pimienta, who also coached him during their time together at Barcelona Atletic.

Marmol has attracted interest from Girona, who could be ready to trigger his €10 million release clause.

This is where Barcelona come in. The club had booked 50% of his rights when he initially moved to Andorra for free in 2022, and retained it when he moved to Las Palmas in the summer.

The Canary Island outfit paid just under €2 million for his services, and Barcelona decided not to strip Andorra of 50% of the transfer fee, instead penning it in in his new deal.

Should the transfer go through, Barcelona could stand to earn €5 million from the move without so much as lifting a finger.

Todibo also pitching in

Barcelona’s sales from the last couple of years seem to be coming through for them, with a certain Jean-Claire Todibo also expected to be on the move this summer.

Nice have priced him at over €50-60 million, and Barcelona could stand to earn €15 million from any potential transfer courtesy of the 25% sell-on clause in his contract.

This €20 million or so as extra revenue will go a long way for Barcelona, who have been trying to secure funding by selling assets of the club.
