Transfer Rumors and News

Barcelona defender not contemplating summer departure amid speculations

Earlier this week, reports emerged claiming that Barcelona could offload Inigo Martinez in the summer transfer window, just a year after signing him.

The Blaugrana brought in the veteran Spaniard on a free transfer last year, signing him on a two-year contract.

However, due to the lack of ‘Fair Play’ margin, Martinez was registered for only one year and not the two years for which he had committed to the club.

With more registration issues expected in the summer this year, it was suggested that Barça might let go of Martinez, especially with the centre-back department currently bloated with options.

Martinez not considering an exit

However, as per a fresh update from Mundo Deportivo, Martinez is not contemplating leaving Barcelona in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 32-year-old veteran was surprised by the reports speculating his exit in the summer due to potential registration problems that might come up.

No one from Barça has said anything to him so far about the matter. And as such he is not giving it much thought and is focused on the club and on making the most of his chances.

Martinez is happy at the club and in the city of Barcelona. The defender still has a year left on his contract with an option for an additional twelve months. And he wishes to fulfil his contract with the Blaugrana.

Not bothered by competition

Moreover, Martinez is not worried about the increased competition for spots in the side, especially following the promotion of teenager Pau Cubarsi. On the contrary, the veteran star thinks about helping him as much as possible.

The former Athletic and Real Sociedad player was signed to provide experience in the squad and impart his vast knowledge to the youngsters. As such, the surplus of central defenders for next season does not perturb him.
