Barcelona defender’s injury concerns national team manager

Andreas Christensen has been a revelation for Barcelona in recent weeks operating as the defensive midfielder.

The Danish international’s installation in the pivot role has coincided with an upturn in form for Barcelona.

As such, when he was forced to withdraw from the starting lineup minutes before kickoff against Atletico Madrid this past Sunday, concerns rose.

Xavi confirmed after the game that Christensen was not necessarily injured but was dealing with some discomfort in his Achilles region, something that has been persistent this season.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand admitted that Christensen’s injury concerns him quite a bit.

“It’s not an injury that just happened during warm-up, but rather something that has been building up over time, he’s had issues with it before. He tried to play yesterday, but he couldn’t,” the coach expressed at the press conference.

Hjulmand stated that the 27-year-old had already suffered from the physical issues and was well aware of the problem cropping up again, which it has.

With the business end of the season near, the Denmark manager then claimed that Christensen’s injury was a matter of worry and concern for him, especially with the Euros looming in the summer.

“I’m not just worried for Andreas. After this break, there are five weeks where all the competitions are decided, the players are under immense pressure,” he remarked.
