Barcelona director Deco met with Erling Haaland’s agent – all the details
In a huge development, Barcelona sporting director Deco held a meeting with Rafaela Pimenta, the agent of Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland, reports Gerard Romero.
Haaland has been a dream of Barça president Joan Laporta and a move for him was explored in the summer of 2022 as well before he signed for Manchester City, but nothing came of it.
Now, though, the doors have been seemingly reopened as Deco held a three-hour long meeting with Pimenta and Maxwell, the Norwegian’s agents, during which the potential transfer was discussed.
As per Romero, the viability of a move for Haaland was discussed during the meeting between the two parties, along with some other names that Pimenta represents, such as Matthijs de Ligt, among others.
However, it is being claimed that Haaland was the main topic of the meeting.
In fact, Romero goes on to add that the possibility of selling two Barcelona players which would help the club facilitate a move for the Manchester City superstar in the summer was also talked about between Deco and Pimenta.
Furthermore, a date has been set for the Barcelona director to meet with Haaland’s family to look into the viability of a move to Catalonia.
Given the club’s finances, a move for the Norwegian superstar will be difficult, but not impossible, reports Romero.
It is certainly a huge development and makes things very interesting given that Barça’s chief rivals, Real Madrid, are all set to sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG for free in the summer.
It must be remembered that Los Blancos hold a strong interest in Haaland as well, although it appears that Barcelona have made the first approach for the Manchester City ace, who is understood to have a release clause worth around €200 million in his contract.
Pimenta, who took over from deceased Mino Raiola as Haaland’s agent, has a great relationship with Laporta. Back in 2023, during an interview, she spoke about their equation, saying:
“I always say that Laporta can’t ask me for anything in football, it’s not fair, because he knows I’m going to say yes.”
It will certainly be interesting to see how things develop on this front and whether Barcelona do go all-in on Haaland this summer.
