La Liga champions Barcelona have reportedly contacted Serie A holders Napoli to discuss a possible move for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions view the 23-year-old as one of their top targets to bolster the offensive unit. And they have approached Serie A holders Napoli to discuss the possibility of landing the attacker in the summer transfer window.
The Rise of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been one of the best players in Serie A since joining Napoli from Dinamo Batumi in July 2022. The Georgian international hit the ground running at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium and played a pivotal role in earning the Partenopei the elusive Scudetto after more than three decades.
He has also taken Georgia to UEFA Euro 2024, with the nation qualifying for a major international tournament for the first time since securing independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. However, the 23-year-old has had sub-par performances at the club level this term, with Napoli producing a weak defence of the Serie A crown.
Kvaratskhelia has contributed to 16 goals in 38 appearances thus far this term, finding the back of the net ten times while providing six assists. However, that is a far cry from his record in the 2022/23 season. Nevertheless, the player’s stock remains high, with several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, setting their sights on him.
Barcelona Want Kvaratskhelia
Barcelona’s interest in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is understandable. The Blaugrana will likely make a few major changes to the first-team squad in the summer transfer window, with Raphinha and Ferran Torres facing an uncertain future at the club. So, Barcelona might seek an offensive reinforcement from the market.
Kvaratskhelia has thus emerged as a viable target, with Barcelona approaching Napoli to discuss his situation. However, the Serie A champions do not want to part ways with the 23-year-old as they want to build their next project around him. So, while the Partenopei might part ways with Victor Osimhen this summer, Kvaratskhelia will likely remain at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Reports have also claimed that the Georgian international is negotiating a new contract with Napoli. So, Barcelona might have to look elsewhere, with the Napoli attacker not leaving the Serie A club anytime soon.
