Barcelona La Masia gem chasing two huge records in the next month currently held by Ansu Fati

Two players found the back of the net in Barcelona’s recent clash against Osasuna in the Spanish Super Cup. Robert Lewandowski, who has not been in the best of form this season, netted the opener while Lamine Yamal doubled the lead in extra time.

In the process, the latter added the latest feather in his cap that already boasts some ridiculous records. Yamal became the youngest player to ever score in the Spanish Super Cup on the night at just 16 years and 182 days.

More records to chase

The La Masia starlet is already the holder of some special records in the world of football. He became the youngest-ever player to score in La Liga as of October 9th last year when he found the back of the net against Mallorca.

He stole the record from his teammate and compatriot Gavi, from whom he also took away the record of being the Spanish National Team’s youngest goalscorer.

As revealed by Mundo Deportivo, however, there are still significant accolades for Yamal to chase in the coming games.

For starters, the 16-year-old can become the youngest ever player to score in a Clasico if he finds the back of the net on Sunday night in the Supercup final. The current record is held by Ansu Fati who scored against Real Madrid aged 17 years and 359 days.

The next record Yamal can eye is to become the youngest-ever goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League. Once again, the record is held by Fati who scored against Inter Milan aged just 17 years and 40 days.

Yamal can break the Brighton star’s record in Europe when Barcelona take on Napoli in the coming months. After all, he has until August before he is no longer eligible on that front.

A start in the final

Xavi has been very cautious with his use of Yamal this season, probably in light of the fitness struggles the likes of Pedri and Gavi are facing. The La Masia starlet is one for the long term, and the last thing the Catalans want to do is compromise his future for the present.

Yet, to start Yamal against Real Madrid come Sunday appears to be a no-brainer. The youngster is Barcelona’s biggest difference-maker on the right wing and proved his worth in the semifinal scoring the second goal on the night.

Not to forget, Raphinha picked up an injury to his thigh and will be out for a few weeks, which opens up the doors for Yamal.

There is thus a good likelihood that Xavi gives the protege a start against Carlo Ancelotti’s men. His contribution could prove pivotal.
