Barcelona manager facing a major selection headache ahead of PSG clash – report

As Barcelona’s encounter with PSG edges closer, speculation regarding the expected starting XI is running rife.

Coach Xavi Hernandez has some difficult decisions to make, especially in midfield, with certain players making their return from injury.

The dilemma in midfield

Now, according to SPORT, the Barça coach has finalized 95% of his starting lineup, but he still has one question that will be answered in a few hours.

The report argues that Xavi finds himself in a predicament over Andreas Christensen’s involvement at the base of the midfield.

While he has done incredibly well since playing as a defensive midfielder, the Dane is by no means assured of a spot against PSG.

His prospects for playing time hang delicately in the balance, with Sergi Roberto’s string of strong performances potentially tipping the scales in favour of his inclusion.

Moreover, although Christensen has recovered from the Achilles tendon issue that saw him miss Barcelona’s last two games, he still feels some discomfort. If the pain persists, Xavi might opt against him.

Frenkie de Jong’s situation

Another player returning from injury is Frenkie de Jong, who twisted his ankle in a game against Athletic Club over a month ago.

His presence in the starting lineup seems increasingly probable, yet Barcelona face a risk as both he and Christensen, if he starts, will be stepping onto the pitch with limited match fitness

In fact, reports have claimed that Xavi intends to start with Frenkie de Jong even though the Dutchman has not played a minute of football since March 4.

With Ilkay Gundogan certain to start and De Jong also likely to feature, Xavi must decide whether to take a chance on Christensen’s defensive robustness or to rely on Sergi Roberto’s current form.
