Transfer Rumors and News

Barcelona midfield superstar’s continuity at the club beyond this season remains uncertain

Frenkie de Jong has become the talking point within the Barcelona circles, as the rumour mill once again starts spinning stories about his potential move away from Camp Nou this summer.

With Barcelona going through an economic crisis, selling a star player could be the need of the hour, if they are to sign new players in the coming summer.

De Jong has emerged as one of the potential sale candidates, alongside the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Ronald Araujo, who is being courted by Bayern Munich.

De Jong’s continuity remains uncertain

It was recently reported that Frenkie de Jong has his heart set on staying at Barcelona, despite the recent speculation.

But MARCA has now come up with a comprehensive update on the midfielder’s future and it appears there is uncertainty over the Dutchman’s continuity at Camp Nou.

Salary has been the main sticking point for both entities. During the holiday period, Barcelona had offered De Jong a renewal offer of three years.

The club wanted de Jong to spend his peak years playing for Barcelona. However, they did not increase the Dutchman’s salary in the said offer.

De Jong’s silence

De Jong, for his part, has remained silent regarding his future at the club. He is yet to even respond to Barcelona’s renewal offer.

From a social perspective, De Jong and his family are extremely happy in Barcelona. But from a sporting level, there are doubts brewing as to whether or not the former Ajax star should continue at the club.

MARCA adds that de Jong is aware of Barcelona’s poor performances in domestic competitions. He is also aware of the club’s poor economic condition.

The report does clarify that De Jong has yet to make a decision on his future. But as things stand, the midfielder may not entirely rule out a transfer in the coming summer.
