Barcelona midfield talent facing uncertain future at club amidst interest from several clubs

Under Xavi Hernandez, several young talents have enjoyed a breakthrough in the Barcelona senior setup. The likes of Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, Marc Guiu, and more recently Pau Cubarsi, are getting regular minutes in the first team.

However, Marc Casado has not enjoyed the same luck when it comes to his involvement in the first-team matches.

The midfielder, who is the captain of the Barça Atletic team, has been called up to train regularly and is part of the matchday squad on a consistent basis as well, but does not get minutes under Xavi.

Casado facing uncertain future at Barcelona

As such, SPORT’s Toni Juanmarti is reporting that Casado is staring at an uncertain future at Barcelona heading into the summer.

As per the update, the 20-year-old has been called up to the first-team squad list on as many as 34 occasions but is yet to make his debut in La Liga.

In the ongoing campaign, Casado has played just 22 minutes of first-team football, with both his appearances coming in the UEFA Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk and Royal Antwerp.

Barça have been trying alternatives in the defensive midfield role after Oriol Romeu’s decline, but Casado has not been given a chance. In fact, it now appears that even Andreas Christensen might be ahead of the La Masia graduate in the pecking order for the No. 6 role.

Casado’s contract with Barcelona expires at the end of the season, but the club retain the option of extending it by another year until 2025.

While the midfielder has been extremely patient, there is no guarantee that he will continue beyond the current season, especially with several clubs interested in his signing.

The impending managerial change at the end of the season might also have a say in how things turn out for the young midfielder.
