Barcelona receive boost as midfield target leaning towards summer exit

Barcelona’s focus lies on fortifying the defensive midfield position this summer, as the team’s shortcomings this season have revealed that it is a critical area in need of improvement.

The club’s technical staff is exploring several possibilities, and Joshua Kimmich stands out as a prime target due to his proven track record and qualities in midfield.

Complications in his pursuit were reported to have cropped up with economic challenges and the potential appointment of Ralf Ragnick serving as a deterrent.

But Mundo Deportivo have come out to claim that recent events in Munich imply that Kimmich may be more receptive to leaving, which was not the case previously.

Ragnick’s rejection may aid Barcelona

Indeed, as per the report, as a result of Ralf Rangnick turning down Bayern’s offer to take over as their next head coach, Kimmich could lean toward an exit.

Given the pair’s strong relationship at RB Leipzig, where Rangnick played a crucial role in helping Kimmich recover from a serious injury, the German may be affected by the current Austria manager’s rejection.

Meanwhile, another aspect that may assist Barcelona’s hunt for the German midfielder is that Thomas Tuchel hinted that he would be open to staying longer at Bayern.

Tuchel’s switch of Kimmich from midfield to the right-back position reportedly caused friction since Kimmich prefers a central role.

The 29-year-old ideally wants to revert to playing in midfield, and Barcelona are willing to offer just that.

Bayern on the lookout for Kimmich’s replacement

Indeed, reports have argued that Adrien Rabiot is being considered by Bayern Munich as a possible replacement for Kimmich.

As the Bavarians search for Kimmich’s successor, a transfer to Barcelona begins to look a lot more feasible.

Whether Barcelona can sign him depends on their financial state and if they manage to return to the 1:1 rule, but the Catalans are certainly interested in Kimmich’s services.
