Barcelona teenage academy graduate could make Champions League history against Napoli

Although Barcelona’s season thus far has been riddled with inconsistencies and collective shortcomings, the talent emerging from La Masia has often eclipsed those concerns.

Indeed, the youthful livewires buzzing around the pitch have managed to deviate spectators’ attention from the bitter reality Barcelona face, both financially and sportingly.

Lamine Yamal has proven to be one of the biggest sources of optimism in these trying times. The youngster’s start to the year has been nothing short of superb, and he most recently dropped jaws once again with a match-winning goal against Mallorca.

With a few months remaining until the campaign draws to a close, Yamal will be eager to create more history. The upcoming showdown versus Napoli presents the ideal opportunity.

Indeed, as per Mundo Deportivo, if Lamine Yamal manages to stamp his name on the scoreboard against Napoli, he will become the youngest player to have ever scored in the history of the Champions League.

Interestingly enough, he would be breaking Ansu Fati’s record, who was just 17 when he hit the winner for Barcelona against Inter back in 2019.

Barça’s academy graduates have a knack for making Barcelona proud on the European scene, and Yamal will be aiming to get his scoring underway in the Champions League next week.

While his impact in the first leg against Napoli was limited, Yamal’s recent performance against Mallorca presents a strong case for him to start the game again and redeem himself.

If he is not placed in the starting XI, minutes off the bench will surely be guaranteed, and the chance to create history will certainly be on the cards.
