Barcelona teenage jewel expected to make his senior international debut tonight – report

The past couple of months have been absolutely magical for Barcelona teenager Pau Cubarsi. From making his first-team debut for the Catalans as a 16-year-old, to already becoming a regular, his rise has been meteoric, to say the least.

International debut incoming

On the back of his impressive displays for Barcelona, Cubarsi, now 17, has earned his first-ever call-up to the Spanish national team.

In fact, Mundo Deportivo states that the teenage sensation is expected to make his debut for Luis de la Fuente’s La Roja tonight when they face Colombia in a friendly.

Cubarsi’s ball-playing and distribution abilities have certainly caught the eye, but his maturity and composure, despite his age, stand out in a big way.

Given the way he has adapted to the pressures of playing for Barcelona, one can expect that the teenager is ready for the international stages.

What has De la Fuente said?

Speaking of Cubarsi earlier in the week, Spain manager Luis de la Fuente praised the Barcelona youngster’s talent and quality, saying:

“We all have no doubt about Cubarsi’s talent and quality. We’re not surprised but maybe the audience is surprised because they haven’t seen him much. We do not look at ID (age), we only look at performance.

“Cubarsi is experiencing a great moment and generates great hope for us for the present and the future. We want to count on him for many years.”

During his press conference on Thursday, De la Fuente dropped a major hint that Cubarsi would get his chance, possibly even against Colombia tonight, saying:

“He has a personality and character that seem beyond his years. Let him savor this moment, it’s truly special.

“My goal is for everyone to get a chance to play and increase their opportunities. It’s also important to prioritize everyone’s well-being, ensuring no one is overplayed. They will definitely get some game-time.”
