Barcelona veteran has more offers than the one from Atletico Madrid – report

As the summer transfer window nears, the future of several Barcelona players is beginning to come under scrutiny.

Players who were initially said to be untransferable now appear to be on the market, especially as the club is in dire need of sales.

One player amidst such times of uncertainty appears set to leave the Catalan capital come June – Marcos Alonso.

Already in the final few months of his contract, a renewal is far from materialising and the player is already in discussions with other parties.

Multiple options on his table

Atletico Madrid have widely been linked with a move for Marcos Alonso as they look to rebuild for the 2024-25 campaign. After all, the out-of-favour left-back will be available as a free agent in June.

In fact, it was widely rumoured that the player’s move to the Spanish capital was all but done.

According to reports from Ruben Uria via Mas Que Pelotas, however, Alonso has offers from clubs other than Los Rojiblancos as well, and his future is far from certain.

Alonso refuses to commit

While his move to Atletico Madrid initially appeared set, it was rumoured recently that the player was unwilling to commit his future to Diego Simeone’s side despite holding talks.

The player’s refusal to commit to the club, needless to say, could be a direct sequel of the other offers on his table.

The coming weeks could thus be crucial in deciding which offer appeals to the player the most.

As it stands, it remains unknown if the other offers on his table are from Europe or the up-and-coming leagues like the Saudi Pro League and the MLS.

At the age of 33 and off the back of a poor season at Barcelona, it would not be surprising if the player sees the financial aspect to be more important than the sporting project. The doors, thus, are wide open.
