Barcelona vice president backs misfiring forward to succeed at the club: “I’m convinced”
It has been a difficult month or so for Barcelona forward Joao Felix as he has struggled to perform consistently for the La Liga champions.
Barring the goals against Atletico Madrid and Valencia in December, it has been a difficult month for Joao Felix, with the Portuguese ace being taken off at half-time against Almeria and being benched altogether for the Las Palmas clash.
While he started in the Copa del Rey encounter against UD Barbastro, the 24-year-old endured a frustrating outing.
And deservedly, Xavi has opted to bench him for tonight’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final versus Osasuna, in favour of Ferran Torres.
Rafa Yuste backs Joao Felix to come good
Despite his recent struggles, Joao Felix continues to enjoy the backing of Barcelona higher-ups, with vice president Rafael Yuste tipping the Portuguese forward to come good.
Speaking just before the Osasuna clash, Yuste said: “I see João Félix happy, whether he is a starter or not. It’s not easy to manage a team like this, but I’m convinced he’s going to succeed at our club.”
Yuste also expressed the club’s happiness at the work being done by manager Xavi Hernandez, saying: “We are very happy with Xavi and his entire group.
“How he creates a group is not easy. How he brings together the youngsters with the most experienced and how he endures this pressure that is always there in Barcelona.”
“Xavi has been saying this for many days. This is a team that is developing. He is very happy with the group. I have been with all of them these days.”
About Barcelona’s expectations and objectives in the Spanish Super Cup, he added: “Firstly, all matches bring pressure and secondly, the team’s situation is that we are present in all possible competitions to play and we face this match with a lot of respect for Osasuna and with the desire to win in every match.
