Joao Felix fizzling out fast as Barcelona loan nears end

Joao Felix is heading towards the end of his season-long loan with Barcelona and is seeing his season rapidly fizzling out.

The Portugal international has not started a game in over a month when he scored a stunning winner against Cadiz. It was named La Liga’s Goal of the Month for April and was the last time he hit the back of the net.

Felix didn’t feature at all against Real Sociedad last time out, while his last four appearances have all come off the bench. His lack of minutes suggest that his future at the club is not looking bright ahead of the summer.

With Barca set to face Almeria on Thursday and Rayo on Sunday, Xavi could well decide to rotate and hand Felix a rare start. Yet with Robert Lewandowski chasing the Pichichi, Raphinha in red-hot form and Lamine seemingly undroppable – it’s by no means certain.

This won’t be the way Felix will want things to end as he aims to try and secure a permanent spot with the Catalans. He’s scored 10 goals and bagged four assists for Barcelona this season but has never managed to cement his place in the team and has fallen out of favour as the season has progressed.
