Blow for Barcelona as PSV decide against taking up purchase option on Sergino Dest

Sergino Dest looks to be heading back to Barcelona after PSV decided against taking up the purchase option in his loan deal.

The USMNT defender had looked set to stay with the Eredivisie champions after playing a key role in their title-winning season.

However, he suffered a serious knee injury in the final weeks of the campaign and has confirmed he’ll undergo surgery on an ACL tear.

Voetbal International and Eindhovens Dagblad are both now reporting that PSV have decided against keeping Dest in the wake of the news about his injury.

Dest is currently in the United States to undergo surgery but is due to report back to Barcelona on July 1.

The news will be a blow to the Catalans ahead of the summer transfer window, as it had looked they’d be able to offload Dest permanently for a fee of around €10m.

Dest’s contract runs until the end of the next season and there’s a real chance he could see out his deal and leave for free, particularly as he’s not expected back for a long time.
