European giants planning raid for Barcelona’s Xavi to lead their new project

The summer of 2024 will prove to be an exhausting one for Barcelona.

They have a ton on their plate, with the club still in a delicate financial situation, but also trying to compete at the highest level in Europe.

And while they try to find transfer solutions for the squad ahead of the transfer window, Barcelona will have more than eye on focusing on their own managerial position, after Xavi’s decision to leave the club at the end of the season

The goal is to convince him to continue after being unable to find a viable replacement for him that reaches mutual consensus within the board.

However, it seems other teams have already set their eye on Xavi.

Ajax considering move for Xavi

According to a report published by SPORT, Ajax are without a manager for next season and are considering a move for Xavi as their new head coach.

They believe that the Spaniard meets all the criteria for their coaching spot, including his ability to work with young players, even those from the academy and develop them into bigger stars.

Xavi’s tactical philosophy as a possession-first coach, who has been trained by the pioneers of JDP like Pep Guardiola also makes him an interesting candidate for Ajax.

Not to forget, the Catalan legend already has the silverware to back him up after winning La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup last season.

Xavi wants a break

However, it must be remembered that Xavi plans to take a sabbatical year after this season, much like Jurgen Klopp, who is leaving Liverpool.

This is why any team pursuing a move for him will find it difficult to convince him to join their project, including Barcelona, who seem hell-bent on trying to pursade him to continue.

As of now, though, Xavi’s focus will be on PSG in the round of 16 of the Champions League and trying to lead the team to European glory against all odds.
