FC Barcelona Can Receive $170 Million Cash Injection Reports Tot Costa

FC Barcelona can receive a cash injection worth a total $173 million (€160 million) according to Catalunya Radio’s popular Tot Costa program, which cited anonymous sources.

Despite the renovation of the club’s iconic Camp Nou stadium not being set for completion until November 2025, Tot Costa explained that 62 VIP boxes there have been put up for sale to companies for the next 10 years.

President Joan Laporta already has a “lot of people” interested in acquiring the boxes, in what could prove a very important cash injection for Barca or an ‘economic lever’ as Laporta likes to call such developments.

The Barca chief coined the phrase in 2022, when Barca sold percentages of its future television rights revenue and stakes in its media arm Barca Studios to finance the purchases of players such as Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde.

From a sporting perspective, the coup proved a masterstroke as head coach Xavi Hernandez was able to steer Barca to its first La Liga title in four years.

The Blaugrana haven’t fared as well on the pitch this term while currently trailing bitter rivals Real Madrid at the summit by eight points. They have advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals, though, in a feat which hadn’t been achieved since 2020 thanks to back-to-back failures to advance out of the group in Europe’s elite club competition.

Fast forward two years down the line after the birth of the economic levers, and Barca is again in need of cash to balance the books before the close of the financial year on June 30, navigate Financial Fair Play limits, and make new signings.

By selling the VIP boxes, Barca could receive an advance payment of $108.5 million (€100 million) on July 1 and then the remaining $65 million (€60 million) on the same date in 2025.

Competing on the transfer market has been complicated for Barca since the turn of the decade, but such money could make a pursuit of a defensive midfielder to replace Sergio Busquets like Joshu Kimmich a possibility.

Simultaneously, Barca could also look to offload players such as Raphinha and Kounde despite their improved form as of late.
