FC Barcelona Confirms Eight-Year Contract Agreement With Lamine Yamal

According to the club’s Sporting Director Deco, FC Barcelona struck an eight-year agreement Lamine Yamal’s camp when the youngster renewed his terms in 2023.

Lamine was long talked up as one of the biggest promises of La Masia throughout his time in the world-famous youth academy.

Often playing a year or two up there, he finally debuted for the senior first team while still 15 years of age and has become a regular fixture in Xavi Hernandez’s starting XI in 2023/2024.

Between his first minutes in the pro ranks against Real Betis last spring and Barca’s La Liga title defense kicking off in August, however, Lamine’s future wasn’t secure because of the fact his contract expired on June 30, 2023.

Finally on October 2, however, Barca was able to announce that the Mataro native had penned an extension with them until 2026 which came with a Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City-proof release clause exceeding $1 billion.

Radio MARCA previously explained how the mentioned PremierPINC League giants tried to lure Lamine away from his boyhood club with a lucrative offer.

Elsewhere in Spain, AS and El Nacional have reported on fears that Barca have of bitter rivals Real Madrid possibly whisking Lamine away owing to the fact his father is an avid Los Blancos fan.

According to Deco, though, and comments he made during an appearance on Esport 3 Wednesday evening, that potential disaster won’t be occurring any time soon.

“We will extend Lamine Yamal’s contract when he turns 18,” Deco vowed, with that particular milestone occurring on July 13, 2025.

“We are not afraid that he will leave because of the pact agreed when Lamine signed his last official document,” the Portuguese also said, adding that Barca has a contract with Lamine “for the next eight years”.

Owing to Lamine’s age and FIFA rules, until June 30, 2026 was the longest Barca could secure him for when the club and the player’s camp last sat down to put pen to paper.

Given president Joan Laporta’s strong relationship with Lamine’s agent Jorge Mendes, however, we can perhaps take Deco’s word that Culers can enjoy the teenager for many years to come.
