FC Barcelona Star’s Value Rises 23 Times As Another Drops $75 Million

A breakout FC Barcelona star has seen his value rise by more than 23 times according to expert site Transfermarkt.

Pau Cubarsi has been a revelation this season under Barca head coach Xavi Hernandez.

Even if the club finishes 2023/2024 trophyless, with the Champions League perhaps the only chance of winning silverware, the promotion of the center back to the first team on the cusp of his 17th birthday could end up being one of the things that defines Xavi’s legacy alongside a similar punt taken on Cubarsi’s close friend since their academy days, Lamine Yamal.

With an MVP performance against Napoli, in the 3-1 last 16 second leg win over the Italians at the Montjuic Stadium, which he described as “one of the best days of my life,” Cubarsi has had a lot to do with Barca reaching the quarterfinals for the first time since 2020 where they will meet the runners up that year in Paris Saint-Germain next month.

In a week Cubarsi can become the youngest defender to play for the Spanish national team since a figure he referred to as an ‘idol’ in Reao Madrid lrgend Sergio Ramos, Cubarsi has also seen his value rise phenomenally.

There are worries about his non-Premier League proof release clause of $11 million (€10 million), which is pocket change to clubs from England.

Previously, however, Cubarsi was rated at just $1.6 million (€1.5 million) by Transfermarkt, but that sum has increased 23.5 times to $27 million (€25 million) according to the expert German website via Mundo Deportivo.

Meanwhile, as SPORT explains, a player who Barca can call theirs at the moment has seen his value drop by $76 million (€70 million) on Transfermarkt.

And though that might seem to be terrible news at face value, it could actually be much welcomed by the Blaugrana.

Initially priced at $108 million (€100 million) when he completed his $137 million (€127 million) move from Benfica and joined Atletico in 2019, Joao Felix’s value has plummeted to $32 million (€30 million).

Barca could point to this when attempting to make the Portuguese’s loan deal permanent when it runs out on June 30, but it would make little difference.

It is ultimately up to the clubs to put their asking price on players, and Felix’s remains a currently difficult $70 million (€65 million) for Barca, according to SPORT.
