FC Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen knows competition with Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer is coming

FC Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen has had the unfortunate experience of being in an era where Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer has been the undisputed starter in between the sticks for the German national team.

With Neuer recovered from his leg injury, the competition for who will start at the Euro 2024 tournament is heating up. For Ter Stegen, it is a positional battle that is built around respect.

“We were in the national team together for more than ten years, and the relationship is characterized by great respect for each other,” Ter Stegen said regarding Neuer (as captured by Barca Universal). “Communication and support were always good and we never had any problems with each other and we always had very good competition at the professional level.”

Ter Stegen also addressed how things are going for him in Catalonia.

“I feel very comfortable in Barcelona. Barcelona is beautiful and people treat me and my family with great respect, and this makes me feel that I am in the right place and I made the right decisions in the past,” Ter Stegen said.

Neuer is expected to regain his starting role with Germany, but Ter Stegen seems ready to try and usurp the position once more — if he can stay healthy. Recently, back problems have bothered the goalkeeper and if things gets worse, Ter Stegen could be the one in danger of missing more time with the German national team.
