Five player decisions that furious Barcelona president has made for club’s future

Barcelona are once again in turmoil. The club’s recent slump, culminating in a shocking 4-2 defeat to Girona, has sent shockwaves through the club, with president Joan Laporta ready to take drastic action.

In fact, Laporta has already made up his mind about five key decisions he will undertake this summer, as part of the club’s overhaul plans.

Frenkie de Jong on the market

Laporta’s first course of action is to put Frenkie de Jong on the transfer market.

Once considered untouchable, the Dutch midfielder now finds himself surprisingly up for grabs. De Jong’s hefty price tag and inconsistency might be the reasons behind this decision.

Indeed, the former Ajax starlet could fetch a lucrative valuation in the market, potentially allowing Barcelona to balance the books and bring in some much-needed revenue.

Lewandowski’s future uncertain

Even the mighty Lewandowski is not safe from scrutiny. According to SPORT, the Barcelona board is discussing a potential revolution in the forward line, hinting that even the club’s top scorer could be moved on.

Formerly of Bayern, Lewandowski has not been able to replicate his form from last season. His inconsistency has also led to much scrutiny within the Barcelona fanbase.

Given his age, coupled with his contract situation, the coming summer poses an excellent opportunity for Barcelona to move on from Lewandowski.

Araujo on the block

Another player facing a lot of scrutiny in recent weeks is Ronald Araujo. Once regarded as the future face of Barça defence, the Uruguayan has become an antagonist at Camp Nou lately, especially after his horror performance against PSG.

Araujo, therefore, could be allowed to move on as well, with Barcelona ready to listen to offers for the centre-back amid interest from Bayern Munich.

Kounde’s future up in the air

Ronald Araujo is not the only defender facing scrutiny. Sources have told Barça Universal that the club are open to listening to offers for Jules Kounde as well.

Although Kounde has not performed badly per se, his age profile, coupled with his potential could make him an appealing target for multiple top clubs across Europe.

Barcelona, therefore, are willing to listen to offers for Kounde and might even look to sanction his sale if a good offer comes through.

Roberto and Ferran to renew

In the midst of a potential summer clearout, there is good news for two Barcelona players, in particular.

SPORT reports that Barcelona are ready to renew the contract of Ferran Torres and Sergi Roberto. Both players have proven quite useful thanks to their versatility and experience this season and could be renewed heading into the new season.
