Atletico Madrid keeping tabs on €50 million Barcelona superstar – report

Barcelona will be dealing with a hectic summer this year as they prepare to offload a lot of players in the transfer window while signing appropriate replacements that can elevate the level of the team and at the very least, paper over the cracks.

However, selling players will not be easy. Most of the Barça squad are on high salaries and will not want to leave the club until their wages are matched.

Frenkie de Jong is the main protagonist on this list as someone on an ascending contract. However, he has age on his side, unlike a Robert Lewandowski, who is turning 36 before the next season even begins.

The Pole has been linked with an exit, and has a bagfull of offers from across the world, including Saudi Arabia and MLS. And as it turns out, he might have suitors within Spain, as well.

Atletico keeping tabs

According to Ruben Uria, as relayed by Mas Que Pelotas, Atletico Madrid are very aware of Lewandowski’s situation and are keeping tabs on him ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Spanish capital outfit have already been rumoured with an interest, with reports claiming that they might try to contact Barcelona over a potential transfer.

Reports have also claimed that Barcelona and Atletico could speak about a potential swap deal involving Lewandowski and Joao Felix.

The Catalans want to sign Felix permanently after his one-season loan stint, but will likely not have the budget to table the amount being demanded for him by Atleti.

Lewandowski not thinking about leaving

While Barcelona try to engineer a move away for Lewandowski in the summer, Lewandowski seems to have no interest in even thinking about his departure.

The ex-Bayern Munich man reminded everyone that he has a contract for two more seasons and that he sees himself at the club in the near future.

Lewandowski is on ascending contract at Barcelona and will earn as much as €32 million next season, which will be a huge problem for the club as they look to get back to the 1:1 rule in La Liga.
