Frenkie de Jong’s actual salary at Barcelona and the club’s stance on his future – report

A lot has been said about the future of Frenkie de Jong at Barcelona in recent days. The media has also speculated about his salary at Camp Nou and how that is detrimental to the club in the long run.

That is why de Jong opted to fire shots at the press, in the run-up to Barcelona’s game against Napoli, stating, “Everything that is said in the media about my salary and my future are lies. It’s a lot of smoke. You can’t do that, you are making things up. Stop this.

In light of De Jong’s comments, MARCA has come out with a comprehensive article, laying out truths regarding de Jong’s current contract and his salary in Barcelona.

What is De Jong’s salary at Barcelona?

It was reported earlier that Frenkie de Jong has a whopping salary of €40 million per year – making him by far the highest-paid Barcelona player.

However, that is far from the truth. MARCA points out that De Jong’s current salary at Barça for this season and the next is at around €18/19 million.

That is almost half of what was reported by the media, although it still does de Jong one of the highest earners at the club

Not to mention, De Jong has additional bonuses added to his contract, which would depend on games played and titles won.

There are also bonuses that he receives in certain seasons, with the highest of them being in the €9 million range.

What next for De Jong and Barcelona?

Considering the economic turmoil Barcelona are going through right now, this is a relatively high and unsustainable salary.

That is perhaps why Barcelona are hard at work trying to convince De Jong to lower his salary and sign a new deal at Camp Nou.

The Dutchman has been one of Barcelona’s top performers under the leadership of Xavi. But his salary situation and market value have led to links over a possible exit, with the Catalans needing to generate revenue.

But, as has been reported and now reaffirmed by MARCA, Barcelona do not intend to sell De Jong this summer and intend to renew his contract, but without an increase in his salary. An offer has already been tabled but there has been no response yet.

If the Dutchman does not renew, though, the Catalans could consider the possibility of a sale to avoid losing him for less next year or for free in 2026.
