Hummel, Barça’s backup plan if they split with Nike

Within the framework of negotiations with Nike to improve the current conditions of the contract expiring in 2028, which are kept secret by both parties, FC Barcelona is exploring all options to ensure the kits and their commercial use on a large scale. Along with Puma showing strong interest in becoming the technical sponsor of the Barça club, President Joan Laporta mentioned on February 2 on RAC 1 the possibility for Barcelona to operate with its own brand, but would need a partner for production. According to Jijantes, the Danish company Hummel is an alternative for Barça to produce competition clothing if talks with Nike fall through, while waiting for a potential deal with Puma for the 2025-26 season. In that scenario, Hummel could supply Barça’s kits for the next season. Besides the Danish team, Hummel, which also has a strong presence in handball, currently outfits teams like Las Palmas, Betis, Southampton, Everton, Málaga, and Sabadell. As reported by MD, FC Barcelona aims to resolve this matter promptly due to the urgency in producing next season’s kits. The club has consulted with legal experts to determine the cost of terminating the current contract with Nike, which currently restricts opening stores abroad or conducting online sales from the United States.”We have a situation that is not desirable, because they do not replace our materials, and because competitors pay us double what Nike pays us. As soon as we told them that the market pays us much more, they made an effort, and we thank them, but it is not enough,” Laporta warned three weeks ago on ‘El Món a RAC 1’.
