‘Improving’ Barcelona will be ready for Real Madrid, says Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong feels Barcelona are starting to improve after beating Osasuna 2-0 in the Spanish Super Cup on Thursday.

Goals from Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal sealed the win that sets up a Clasico final on Sunday.

Barcelona haven’t been in great form recently but De Jong feels things are starting to look up for Xavi’s side.

“We have to improve, we are improving. It is a fairly new team, with many changes and you always need time to get used to your teammates. Also many injuries and we are in this process. A final with Madrid is very nice,” he told Movistar.

“There are two days, more than enough. We don’t have to travel, nor have we played extra time. We will be prepared.”

Barcelona also managed to win by more than a single goal for the first time in 20 games, and De Jong admitted goals have been an issue.

“It was a problem, it had been a long time since we won by more than one goal. In the end it’s about winning and playing well. We played a serious game, the first half not so good but the second half better,” he added.

“It was difficult to find spaces because they closed very well, in the middle there was very little space and we needed more mobility and also creativity. I think the changes have helped us with that, yes.”

Barcelona now face Carlo Ancelotti’s side in a repeat of last year’s final which Xavi’s side won 3-1.
