Injured Barcelona starlet could play for Spain at the Paris Olympics along with fellow La Masia graduates

Several Barcelona youngsters are in contention to represent Spain either at the UEFA Euro or at the Paris Olympics this year.

According to a report from SPORT, first-team players such as Fermin Lopez, Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal are all being considered.

As such, the likes of Fermin and Balde are all but confirmed for the Olympics in Paris while Yamal has a certain spot in the senior team for the Euro.

Now, it is to be noted that Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente had affirmed that Balde would recover from his hamstring problem in time for the Euros, but as it turns out, the 20-year-old is practically ruled out of the event, prompting him to fight for a place at the Olympics.

A good opportunity for Balde

The Spanish Football Federation considers the age requirement, and since Balde is just 20, they may include him for the Olympics. However, the decision depends on his physical condition and whether he wants to participate. 

Eventually, the player needs to discuss with Barcelona to determine the best option. It must be noted that Balde can be chosen without permission from his club, but the Federation usually likes to agree with the club. 

Playing at the Olympics could be beneficial not only for Balde but also for Barcelona as they could benefit because he would start the next season after playing in the competition. 

As of today, though, Fermin seems to be the only Barcelona player with a confirmed spot in Paris.

Which other Barcelona player would be picked?

This time, it looks like the players will not participate in the Euro Cup and Olympic Games together, unlike in 2021, because it increases the risk of injuries.

Take Yamal, for example; he is usually in the senior team under De la Fuente, but he might take a break after the Euro Cup because he had a tough first season.

From Barcelona, even though they might be too young, some players might go to Paris because they’re doing well in the first team.

Pau Cubarsi and Hector Fort are two really good footballers according to the RFEF. Marc Guiu is also appreciated, but he has more competition from established forwards like Samu (Alaves) or Abel Ruiz.
