La Liga manager rules out possibility of replacing Xavi at Barcelona: “Didn’t cross my mind”

Las Palmas manager Garcia Pimienta has said that rejoining Barcelona has not even crossed his mind yet, as his current objective is to finish as high as possible with his current team.

Pimienta has been at Las Palmas since January 2022, but his managerial career actually started in 2001 when, while still being a player, he assisted Alex Garcia in coaching Barcelona’s Cadete squad.

In 2017, he took the reigns of the Blaugrana’s Juvenil A team and after winning the UEFA Youth League, he was promoted to coach the reserves squad. Pimienta managed Barcelona Atletic in the third tier for three full seasons.

Now, while Xavi’s immediate future at Barcelona is pretty secure, there is a growing idea that Pimienta could be considered if he is to be dismissed at the end of the season.

However, while speaking about it, Pimienta said that joining Barcelona hasn’t crossed his mind yet.

“It doesn’t even cross my mind at this moment, we have to achieve permanence, which is going to be very difficult, and once achieved, what happens in the future will be seen,” he was quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona has confidence in Xavi

It was only yesterday that we reported how confident the Barcelona board is with regard to Xavi. The president and vice president’s comments came in the light of the fact that the Blaugrana are enjoying a great run of form.

The team from Catalonia has already lost one title, in Spanish Super Cup, and judging by the look of things, their defence in La Liga is likely to crumble as well.

Regardless of that, though, club president Joan Laporta affirmed, “We have full confidence in Xavi.”

On the other hand, vice president Rafa Yuste said, “Confidence in Xavi? To death.”
