Lamine Yamal youngest player to score twice in a La Liga match


The phenomenon that is Lamine Yamal shows no sign of letting. During a wonderful display in the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys against Granada, the teenager scored twice to help salvage a point for Xavi Hernández’s team. Furthermore, the winger added a new record to his extensive collection as he became the youngest player ever to score twice in a game in La Liga at the age of 16 years and 213 days, with no other player ever having achieved the feat before the age of 17. 

The previous record for the blaugranes was held by Ansu Fati who scored twice in a game against Levante in February 2020 at the age of 17 years and 94 days. Prior to that the record was held by Bojan Krikic who bagged a brace in 2008 at 17 years and 208 days, the striker taking it away from Leo Messi who in 2006 had scored twice in a game at 18 years and 219 days.

The run of record began when Lamine Yamal made his first team debut for FC Barcelona at the age of 15 years, 9 months and 16 days in a game against Betis in April of 2023. This season the teenager has continued to set new landmarks on a regular basis: 

  • Youngest league goalscorer with a strike against Granada on 8 October 2023
  • Youngest starter for Barça against Cádiz on 20 August 2023
  • Youngest Barça player to feature in the Champions League and second youngest ever against Antwero on 19 September 2023
  • Youngest player and youngest goalscorer in the Spanish Super Cup against Osasuna 11 January 2024
  • Youngest player to feature in a Clásico against Real Madrid
