Barcelona considering two options for youngster’s future amid doubts over continuity

When FC Barcelona beat Real Madrid to the signing of Pablo Torre from Racing Santander in 2022, there was a lot of joy and excitement around the player.

After all, the young attacking midfielder was coming on the back of an impressive season in the lower division and had been tipped for great heights.

Torre’s debut season at Barcelona did not go as per plan, as he found minutes hard to come by under Xavi Hernandez. As a result, he was loaned out to Girona last summer, so that he can play regularly and continue his development.

But things have not worked out for the 20-year-old at the Catalan club either as he has played only 687 minutes this season across 23 matches (five starts) in all competitions.

Barcelona unsure about Torre’s continuity next season

Now, with the season in the final phase, Torre is expected to be back at Barcelona in the summer. And, SPORT reports that the Blaugrana have doubts about his continuity at the club next season.

While his talent and quality are not in question, Barça feel that he is still some way away from establishing himself in the club’s first team, especially given the loaded midfield department.

After all, the Catalans already have Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Ilkay Gundogan, and Fermin Lopez ahead of him in the pecking order for the two interior midfield positions as things stand.

So, even though it is likely that Torre will do the pre-season with Barcelona, especially if there is a new coach at the helm, his future next season lies outside the club.

Two options being considered

As such, the report adds that Barcelona are exploring two options with regard to the future of Pablo Torre.

Firstly, the 20-year-old could be loaned out once again like he has been done this season so that he can get minutes and develop.

On the other hand, the Catalan giants need to generate revenue and as such, the possibility of selling Torre, but with a buyback option included, is also being looked at.

The formula was applied for Chadi Riad last summer and the club could think of repeating the trick with Torre, who is attracting interest from a number of first-division teams.
