Real Madrid to face Barcelona in New Jersey on USA tour
Real Madrid and Barcelona are reportedly set to play another edition of El Clásico in the United States this summer.
According to AS, the La Liga heavyweights will face off at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, with Madrid also planning to play another friendly in Boston.
It would be the third consecutive preseason Clásico on U.S. soil, after the teams met in Las Vegas in 2022 and in Arlington, Texas last year.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed last week that his team is planning another preseason tour of the United States, making the announcement when discussing the extension of the club’s agreement with car manufacturer Cupra.
“In the summer tour we will undertake, if we finally go to the United States, we will also bring Cupra along. We can help a lot [to boost the Cupra brand in the U.S.] because for us, the American market is also important, and Americans are amazed by European cars. Surely, we’ll achieve success,” he said.
Barça will return to the U.S. after playing a December friendly against Club América in Dallas. The game, which took place just a day after a league match in Spain, earned the cash-strapped club a reported €5 million payday.
There will be questions over which stars from Madrid and Barça will be present in the United States, with several of the team’s key players slated for international duty this summer.
Euro 2024 will take place from June 14 to July 14 in Germany, with the Copa América set for the United States from June 20 to July 14. Typically, the clubs’ preseason tours have taken place from late July through early August, meaning players on teams that make long runs in those tournaments may not be available.
