Rafa Márquez and Leo Messi shared during six seasons in the FC Barcelona. In a talk with the Mexican presenter Yordi Rosado, the one of Michoacán desveló how was his relation with ‘The Flea’.

“I saw the debut of Messi when it was young. We had listened that there was a boy in The Masia that was very different to the rest, that marked the difference and was an authentic phenomenon. And the truth is that from his arrival this was truly visible. We expected that it was a big player, but clear, it was necessary to help it because it was very young. In the trainings I gave him a lot of orders and he listened them”, remembered the trainer of the Barça Atlètic.

In this sense, the ex international Mexican explained how tried to help to Leo for improved the rival area. “We knew that Leo could dribble to three or four players, but sometimes exaggerated it a lot. We tried to direct it, saying him: ‘Here dribla, here no’. It was so that it worked more with his mates of team”. This, a day, could finish badly between both.

“By my strong insistence in these instructions, occurred a problem between Messi and I. We begin to exchange words and Guardiola had to take part to solve the problem. Messi and I were not big friends, were colleagues”, explained Márquez. Both coincided in the first team between 2004 and 2010, winning four Leagues and two Champions, among others trophies.
