FC Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal Not Scared Of Pedri Burnout, Reveals Dream

FC Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal claimed that he is not scared of a Pedri-esque burnout and revealed his dream in an interview with MARCA.

At the age of 16, Lamine has become a regular for both club and country as the youngest appearance maker for Barca in the 21st century and the youngest scorer in La Liga history.

He holds those youngest cap holder and goalscoring record for La Roja too. And despite seeing the plight of his Blaugrana teammate Pedri, who played 72 games in his first full season in the elite by also going to the Euros and the Olympics, and spends more time injured on the sidelines than gracing the pitch, Lamine is not scared of suffering a similar burnout.

Asked if he wanted to represent his country and the mentioned major tournaments in Germany and Paris, Lamine said: “Anything that means playing is good for me. Whatever comes, fine, but first we’ll think about the European Championship.”

Then when he was asked “aren’t you afraid of what happened to Pedri?” the youngster responded: “Well, in the end it all depends on the person. There is still a long way to go. I don’t know, it’s something that can happen, but hey, everything that involves playing I’ll be available.”

Pushed to reveal what he dreams about, Lamine said that this is “playing in a Champions League final, playing in a European Championship, playing in a World Cup”.

“To be able to score in a World Cup or a European Championship…,” he went on.

To be able to complete the first of those ambitions, Barca must get past a Paris Saint-Germain side in the quarterfinals that his club head coach Xavi Hernandez described as “one of the worst” teams his men could face.

PSG of course boast Kylian Mbappe. And though Lamine wouldn’t be drawn into talking about a figure it is expected will join Barca’s bitter rivals Real Madrid this summer, he called his fellow wideman “an unbelievable player”.

Above all, the most important goal that Lamine wants to score in the coming weeks is “in the second leg with PSG, the one that gives [us] the victory” he stressed.
