Barcelona still hoping to raise funds and sign a midfielder in January

Barcelona are still hoping to receive a financial boost of 40 million euros this winter which would potentially allow the club to sign a midfielder.

The Catalans have missed out on a payment from German firm Libero for a stake in Barca Studios but are hoping other investors will take the plunge.

Cadena SER reckon that Barca expect to close a deal before the end of the month and hope to add to the squad.

Signing a midfielder has become a “top priority” after losing Gavi to injury, with Xavi admitting he wants another player for the second half of the campaign.

Aleix Garcia remains the dream, but is likely to be out of the club’s financial reach, while Girona have also made it clear they don’t want him to leave.

Barcelona have been linked with a whole host of midfielders but face a real battle to bring in anyone while working with such as precarious financial situation.
