Tottenham plot free transfer swoop for 18-year-old Barcelona prodigy
Dani Rodriguez is one among many young jewels coming through the ranks at Barcelona’s La Masia youth academy.
However, the Catalans are staring at the risk of losing the 18-year-old versatile winger as his contract expires at the end of the ongoing season.
Tottenham interested in Dani Rodriguez
Given his talent and potential, there is unlikely to be a shortage of suitors for Dani Rodriguez in the summer.
Only yesterday, we reported that Barcelona’s La Liga rivals, Athletic Club, were looking to swoop the teenage prodigy away.
Now, Toni Juanmarti of SPORT reports that Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur have taken an interest in Dani Rodriguez and are trying to sign him in the summer.
The Lilywhites can not only offer an enticing sporting project to the 18-year-old but also have the financial wherewithal to make an important offer that could end up making a difference.
Barcelona are of the belief that the north London club are doing the best they can to take one of the most promising players from the youth academy.
Barcelona working on a renewal
At 18 years of age, Dani Rodriguez has already played six games for Barça Atletic and has trained on several occasions with the senior team. The youngster is also an international with the Spanish U-19 team.
The report states that talks between the player’s entourage and Barcelona have already taken place, although as of today a hypothetical renewal agreement is a long way off.
Further contact between his agent, Pini Zahavi, and Barcelona is expected in the coming weeks to tackle the situation.
Both Barcelona and the player know that if they only look at the economic aspect, the Catalan club will never be able to compete with Tottenham. Therefore key will lie in the sporting plan that the Blaugrana can draw up for him.
With several youth talents knocking on the first-team doors, Barcelona will have to decide on who they wish to bet on and whom they would let go. And it remains to be seen which route they take with Dani Rodriguez.
