‘We know our quality’ – Raphinha, Cubarsi, Yamal looking forward to facing Atletico Madrid

Barcelona will be looking to sign off for the international break on a positive note as they take on Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

The Catalans are gunning for three points as they look to remain in the race for the league title. They are coming on the back of excellent form, having racked up three wins in the last four league matches.

Most importantly, Barça were able to secure a berth in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Champions League following a win over Napoli.

Speaking ahead of the Atleti game, Barcelona attacker Raphinha sounded confident of Barcelona’s chances. “We are fine. The victory against Naples gives us confidence to face this match, which we know will be difficult. Atlético always fight to be in the first places,” he said.

“In their stadium, in addition, the fans push a lot. But we know our quality and potential and what we have to do to win the game. Winning is important to be close to the top and to keep confidence high until the end of the season,” he added.

Raphinha’s assessment of Atletico Madrid was echoed by his attacking teammate Lamine Yamal, who will be in focus after being included in Spain’s latest roster.

“Atletico, in their home, are a great team, but with our game, we can win. It is an important match. We can get closer to Real Madrid and the second place,” Yamal said heading into this game.

Yamal has showcased excellent form in recent weeks and could be a difference-maker for Barcelona, as they take on the sturdy Atletico Madrid defensive line.

Speaking of defence, Pau Cubarsi is arguably the hottest young centre-back in world football right now, having enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence.

Speaking ahead of the Atleti game, Cubarsi stressed the importance of fighting for the league title.

“Against Atletico, on Sunday, we have to give everything because we have not left La Liga aside. It is one of the keys to the season. There is a lot of league left and we will fight for it until the end,” he said.

As Barcelona hope to gain three points out of this tie, the onus will indeed be on Cubarsi to help the team retain another clean sheet, up against an Atleti attack led by ex-Barcelona stars such as Antoine Griezmann and Memphis Depay.
