Lucas Bergvall hits back at Barcelona claim and shows he’s perfect for Postecoglou’s Tottenham

Lucas Bergvall gave a glimpse of how he will fit perfectly into Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham system and hit back at claims from a former Barcelona scout about his decision to snub them for the Premier League club.

The 18-year-old midfielder put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Spurs which will begin on July 1 following an £8.6million move from Swedish side Djurgarden. Tottenham saw off competition from Barcelona as well as Eintracht Frankfurt to bring one of Scandinavia’s brightest young talents to north London.

Bergvall, who made his first senior international appearance for Sweden this year, is expected to play a big role for Djurgarden in the first half of the Swedish Allsvenskan season, which begins in April, before joining up with Postecoglou’s squad for their pre-season this summer.

On Monday night, he started in the Swedish Cup match against Skovde for his current club and the local media suggested he was the best player on the pitch. Within five minutes he had set up a goal for Deniz Hummet that would have looked very familiar to Spurs fans.

Bergvall, naturally a box-to-box midfielder, swept into a left wing role, picked up a pass and drove to the touchline before delivering a low ball across the six-yard box which was touched home by Hummet. It was the kind of goal Postecoglou drills into his attacking players week in, week out, with low balls across the front of goal from the wingers, showing the young Swede will fit in well when he arrives in July.

The teenager also hit back this week in an interview with Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet at claims from former long-time Barcelona scout Bojan Krkic Sr that Bergvall’s family made the decision to snub a move to Spain for him and used the Catalan club to get a bigger offer from Tottenham.
