Barcelona director Deco has ruled out move for €50 million-rated Premier League midfield enforcer

It is no secret that Barcelona are on the lookout for midfield reinforcements at the earliest possible, but financial problems are holding the club back.

The Catalan club’s administration is working hard to bring in funds through the Barça Studios operation after Libero’s non-payment of €40 million dues.

And, once that arrives, there should be enough salary limit generated for Barcelona to sign and register a new player in January.

As per SPORT, if there is a fresh injection of funds, Barça may even make a surprise signing in midfield, advancing a deal that they had been planning for the summer.

Deco rules out move for Amadou Onana

Sporting director Deco is looking at several options as possible targets, with Girona’s Aleix Garcia emerging as a serious option. At the same time, some players linked with the club have been discarded altogether.

One such player who is no longer under consideration, as per the report, is Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, whose signing in 2024 has been ruled out by Barcelona’s director.

Onana, 22, had emerged as a possible target for Barça, following his explosive displays in midfield for Everton. A number of top teams in the Premier League had also taken an interest in the Belgian international.

Onana, though, would be a pricey acquisition for the Blaugrana given that his current market value stands at €50 million while he has a long-term contract with Everton until 2027.

It is unsure whether this is the reason behind Deco ruling out a move for the 22-year-old or not, but as per the report, the Everton man is no longer under consideration to reinforce the Barcelona midfield.
