Barcelona to face Unionistas de Salamanca in last 16 of the Copa del Rey

Barcelona have been drawn to face Unionistas de Salamanca in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey.

Xavi’s side made it through after a narrow 3-2 win over fourth-tier side Barbastro on Sunday to take their place in the next round.

Their next opponents are in the third division, along with Barcelona Athletic, but are below Rafa Marquez’s side and just three points off the bottom. However, they did beat the Mexican’s team 2-0 last time out.

Unionistas also knocked out Villarreal last time out on penalties. The game had to be finished off today, due to floodlight failure, with the Yellow Submarine being knocked out on penalties.

They seemed pretty happy to draw Xavi’s side in the next round of the competition.

There are a couple of all La Liga affairs in the last 16 – with the tie of the round being a Madrid derby.

Here’s the draw:

Unionistas vs Barcelona

Tenerife vs Mallorca

Getafe vs Sevilla

Osasuna vs Real Sociedad

Valencia vs Celta

Athletic vs Alavés

Atlético vs Real Madrid

Girona vs Rayo

The ties are scheduled to take place after the Spanish Super Cup between Janaury 16-18 and will be played as a single tie.
