Barcelona face Arsenal, Manchester United competition for ‘long-time’ midfield target – Romano

In a recent podcast with the United Stand, Fabrizio Romano has offered a series of updates in the world of transfers.

He notably discussed the future of Mason Greenwood while listing out some of the potential targets for Manchester United in the coming summer.

Romano also mentioned Everton starlet Amadou Onana, describing him as a ‘big market opportunity’.

Barcelona hold long-time interest in Onana

In fact, the Italian transfer expert pointed out that Barcelona hold a long-time interest in Amadou Onana, who is currently one of Everton’s top performers.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Onana has impressed onlookers with his solidity and organisation skill in the middle of the park. He has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dire campaign for Everton.

Romano suggests that Barcelona have been tracking the situation of Onana for quite some time now and could emerge as one of the potential suitors for the young Belgian.

As mentioned earlier, Romano believes Onana could be an exciting market opportunity this summer, especially with Everton fighting with relegation this season.

Barcelona to face stiff competition

Barcelona, though, are not alone in the race to sign Amadou Onana this summer. Romano also pointed out Arsenal as an interested party.

Even Manchester United are expected to join the race for the young defensive midfielder, who can prove to be an appealing target for a club like Barcelona.

The Catalans have struggled to replace Sergio Busquets since his departure last summer. Although Andreas Christensen has done remarkably well this year, the Danish is more of a makeshift option.

Having a natural like Onana, to that end, could be beneficial for Barcelona as they look to rebuild the squad under the leadership of a new coach this summer.
