Barcelona hope to generate €200 million from player sales, two captains could be sacrificed

Barcelona will need to sell players for over €100 million in the summer if they want to return to the 1:1 rule in La Liga, which will allow them to spend as much money as they earn from revenue.

With Xavi leaving the club at the end of the season, there probably are not many managers in the market who would like to take over the club in their current condition. With little to no promise of getting new signings, life sure is bound to get tough.

As such, Barcelona are hoping to generate at least €200 million in player sales this season. Not only would it earn them enough money to return to the 1:1 rule, but it would also increase their wage cap, and allow them to pursue superstars.

As per Victor Malo, two of the primary candidates to be sold this summer are Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo. Both of them have a very high market price, with each expected to fetch nearly or over €100 million.

Frenkie de Jong’s case

Frenkie de Jong has apparently given the green light to leave Barcelona in the summer. The Dutchman believes he has severely underachieved at the club, and is looking for a more competitive team for the next part of his career.

Chelsea, Manchester United, and PSG are interested in signing him. While all three can pay his release clause easily, only one of them — PSG —, are expected to compete in the Champions League next season, which seems to be FdJ’s priority.

He was also close to joining United two seasons ago, when Barça agreed on a €85 million deal for him. Eventually, though, he refused to leave.

Ronald Araujo’s case

Ronald Araujo, on the contrary to de Jong, is a far more important player for Barcelona fans. As the third-captain of the club and a fan-favourite, the Uruguayan has quickly become one of the best in his position across Europe.

Bayern Munich are currently leading the race to sign him, and are reportedly ready to pay €100 million for his services, too. However, Barcelona have deemed him to be untouchable player, and it seems highly unlikely that he will be sold.
