Barcelona pushing to offload out-of-favour duo in the summer

As the summer transfer window gets closer, the pressure on Barcelona’s head keeps increasing. Under severe financial distress, their number one priority is to complete departures of several players in the team.

After all, there are a few key positions in the team that need to be bolstered, including holding midfield, left-wing, and even central midfield.

Central defence is one of the positions Barcelona are stacked in, with Ronald Araujo, Pau Cubarsi, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, and Inigo Martinez making the quintuplet.

Reports have claimed that the latter three of these will be on the shortlist for an exit as Barcelona hope to get some big money with their departure.

Other than that, though, Barcelona will also push to sell two more centre-backs, who are currently not part of the team.

Time over for on-loan duo?

According to a report published by SPORT, Barcelona have decided the future of Clement Lenglet and Eric Garcia in the team. Neither of the two have a place in the squad for next season, and will be sold.

Lenglet is currently on loan at Aston Villa, and has done rather well through the second half of the campaign, cementing his place in the team. The English club might be in for his signature themselves.

Garcia, on the other hand, has had an impressive season at Girona on loan. He had decided to leave Barça during the final days of the summer window, and will be sold this summer, with the club expecting a fair few offers.

Abudance of replacements

Barcelona could offload as many as three to four centre-backs this summer, but do not seem worried about replacing any of them.

Pau Cubarsi has already shown he is ready for a starting spot in the team, and has been playing alongside Araujo in the heart of the backline regularly.

Meanwhile, Barcelona also have Mikayil Faye and Mamadou Mbacke from Barça Atletic, who have been knocking on the door of the first-team for a while now.
