Barcelona to hit panic button if Xavi’s side finish third

Barcelona slipped to third in La Liga on Saturday after being beaten by Michel’s impressive Girona side 4-2 at Montilivi.

Xavi’s side now face a battle to finish second, and secure a place at the Spanish Super Cup, with just four games of the season left to play.

Diario AS are reporting that if Barcelona do end up finishing third then Joan Laporta could well hit the panic button and decide on all sorts of “very traumatic” changes.

Xavi has agreed to stay on for another season but his job will apparently be at risk again with a third-place finish. Rafa Marquez remains an option and may gain more ground if his Barca Atletic team win promotion.

There will also be some changes to the playing staff with high-earners such as Ronald Araújo and Frenkie de Jong “invited to leave.” Laporta may also decide not to renew Sergi Roberto after all and the two Joaos are unlikely to see their loans extended.

AS claim the only players who will be safe if Barcelona do finish behind Girona are youngsters Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Fermin Lopez and Pau Cubarsi as well as goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
