FC Barcelona Coach Xavi Hernandez Announces Resignation
FC Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has announced that he will leave his post on June 30.
The announcement came at a post-match press conference which followed Barca’s 5-3 loss to Villarreal at the Montjuic Stadium on Saturday.
Barca came back from a two-goal deficit to lead 3-2 at one point of the match, but then conceded an equalizer approaching full time as Villarreal struck a further two times to practically end the hosts’ hopes of retaining their La Liga title.
RAC1 reported that president Joan Laporta had called a meeting with the sporting area after the full time whistle to analyze Barca’s situation which many have dubbed a crisis.
Xavi was then reportedly called to meet Laporta and finally appeared for his post-match press conference around an hour and a half after the defeat that left Barca 10 points behind bitter rivals Real Madrid at the summit.
“Before you ask me the pertinent questions, I want to announce that from June 30 I will not continue as Barca coach,” Xavi said.
